This role is an integral part of the pricing and product development team, ultimately responsible for evaluating, proposing, and implementing new product ideas and changes to existing products to ensure market competitiveness while meeting profit and risk requirements.

Responsibilities

  1. Product Development, Design, and Pricing
    1. Provide actuarial expertise to a cross-functional team responsible for evaluating and prototyping new product, capital management, and underwriting ideas.
    2. Lead pricing efforts on new and existing products while balancing competitiveness, profitability, and risk standards.
    3. Work closely with Product Performance and Product Development teams to develop and implement changes to pricing assumptions, models, and tools.
    4. Continuously evaluate and improve pricing process to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
    5. Develop and implement changes to pricing structure and algorithms (i.e. “smarter pricing”).
    6. Analyze and document financial impacts of any new products or product changes and communicate results to key stakeholders

 

  1. Regulatory and Product Implementation Support
    1. Review, analyze the pricing impact of, and implement into the pricing models domestic and international regulatory capital and accounting regimes such as Solvency II, PBR, and IFRS-17.
    2. Work with a cross-functional team to develop or revise and file policy forms.
    3. Provide actuarial support for product filings, including the authoring of actuarial memorandums and guidance as to potential pricing impacts of any changes to the policy language.
    4. Collaborate with employees from across the organization to help bring products to market. Work may include development and review of marketing material, building and testing policy administration and sales illustration systems, and development of tools for use by other areas across the company.

 

  1. Actuarial Pricing Assumption Review and Development
    1. Assist with the research, development, analysis, and proposal of assumptions for new products or product features, and prudent margins on experience-based assumptions for existing products
    2. Work with Data Science, Valuation, and Inforce Management teams to understand how emerging experience will impact new business pricing.

 

  1. Actuarial Model Development and Maintenance
    1. Develop, utilize, and maintain actuarial models that comply with Legal & General’s Model Risk Control Framework.
    2. Implement, review, and document model and assumption changes.

 

  1. Manage and Develop Staff
    1. Provide oversight, direction, and mentorship to junior staff members.

 

  1. Ad hoc Projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

BS/BA Math/Statistics/Actuarial Science

ASA

 

Experience/Knowledge

5 or more years of experience in life insurance.

 

Skills

The ideal candidate will have strong critical thinking skills, be results oriented, and be driven to strive for continuous improvement.

The candidate must have the ability to communicate complex financial issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Significant experience with MG-ALFA or similar actuarial software is highly preferred.

Excellent communication skills, written and oral.

 

What’s in it for you?

 

The expected hiring compensation range for this position is $107,800 - $148,200 annually. This is a remote opportunity operating on EST.

 

The total compensation package for this position may include other elements, such as a sign-on bonus, long term incentives, and annual bonuses.  This role is eligible to participate in the Legal & General America Annual Incentive Plan. The current target payment for the position is 20% of base salary, modified for corporate and individual performance. Bonuses are pro-rated based on start date.  This role has 20 vacation days and 10 sick days that are accrued on a bi-weekly basis. Employees also have 9 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
