Working as a business area subject matter expert, the Principal Product Manager (PPM) aligns a long-term vision for product, features, and capabilities to LGA’s enterprise strategy. The PPM owns business processes and leads the development and implementation of customer service, business process and systems improvements to better the customer experience and reduce operational costs. Using industry trends, best practices and customer feedback, they will own the vision, roadmap and backlog, prioritizing a portfolio of products and capabilities to deliver maximum impact and efficient resource planning. The PPM will partner other PPM, Agile Product Owners, and business area leaders to own the outcome and derive benefits for each iterative delivery of transformational solutions.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, monitored, and managed.
  2. Adhere to written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities, including escalating / reporting risk events in a timely manner in accordance with the risk event reporting process.
  3. Become the subject matter expert in appropriate business area regarding business process, system functionality, insurance industry practices, standards, and regulation.
  4. Document and maintain operating procedures, process maps and customer journey maps within the business area.
  5. Collaborate with Agile Product Owners, peer Principal Product Managers, and business stakeholders to define the strategic and tactical product roadmap, manage and prioritize key features and capabilities, ensuring alignment to customer feedback and LGA’s strategy.
  6. Agree with sponsors and stakeholders the KPI and value targets for the proposition, align the roadmap and build the business case to achieve the agreed outcome.
  7. Engage with all sponsors and stakeholders through appropriate and effective communications, presentations, sprint reviews, UAT and interactions to support effective decision-making and be responsible for the outcomes of deliveries against the product roadmap.
  8. Partner on all aspects of proposition creation from ideation through elaboration, testing and delivery, making decisions on behalf of sponsors and stakeholders, creating a single source of opinion, and the use of fact-based decision making where possible.
  9. Develop and present business cases for large-scale project propositions to win funding, sometimes for projects in excess of $2m.  Monitor, and review the cost/benefit analysis and business risk, ensuring that there are appropriate and effective governance arrangements, supported by appropriate data.
  10. Coordinate with Change Management to ensure the people side of change is planned and addressed for all impacted stakeholders, to include communications, training and reinforcement activities.
  11. Foster a work environment that is open, informed and empowered, in order to continually improve effectiveness and deliver value to the business.

Qualifications

 

Education

BS/BA Degree preferred (may consider equivalent combination of education and experience.)

FLMI designation preferred

 

Experience/Knowledge

10+ years of business experience

8+ years of leadership experience, preferably in a matrix organization

8+ years of life insurance industry experience required.

Subject matter expert in at least one area of the business - life insurance operations preferred.

Experience planning, managing and executing business and IT initiatives

Process Improvement methodologies, such as Lean and/or Six Sigma

Agile delivery methodology

Change management methodology

Demonstrated strong problem-solving, analytical and decisions-making skills

Strong leadership and management skills

Demonstrated solid written and oral business writing, communication, and presentation skills with ability to effectively communicate to and influence at all levels of the organization

Strong relationship and collaboration skills with ability to resolve conflict across different business areas and at all levels of the organization

Strong knowledge and application of insurance industry practices, standards, and regulation

Proven track record of developing an effective and valuable prioritized product roadmap

Ability to develop detailed business cases for large scale initiatives that receive funding in the amount of $2m or greater

What’s in it for you?

 

The expected hiring compensation range for this position is $125,000 - $150,000 annually. This is a remote opportunity working on EST.  Preference will be given to local candidates.

 

The total compensation package for this position may include other elements, such as a sign-on bonus, long term incentives, and annual bonuses.  This role is eligible to participate in the Legal & General America Annual Incentive Plan. The current target payment for the position is 20% of base salary, modified for corporate and individual performance. Bonuses are pro-rated based on start date.  This role has 20 vacation days and 10 sick days that are accrued on a bi-weekly basis. Employees also have 9 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
